Latin – Ballroom (International style)

In International Style we come across two dance categories, namely Ballroom Standards and Latin American, each of which consist of particular types of dance: Slow Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Tango, Fox Trot, Quick Step and Rumba, Cha cha, Jive, Samba and Passo Doble.

'BALL' is a large formal occasion at which people dance, hence BALLROOM is a very large room used for dancing on very formal occasions. Initially Ballroom dancing belonged to the privileged and as a result, the popular and country dances were only for the lower class. Nowadays 'Ballroom' refers to all kinds of recreational dances with partners. It has been limited (and traditionally) to five European and five Latin American dances. Both styles, in spite of their different technique, the rhythm and the dress code are associated with basic elements of the international ballroom style such as control and cohesion. The first traces of Ballroom dances date back to the 16th century. Viennese Waltz was initially danced in 1812 and it was later introduced to England in 1820. Since then Ballroom has been developed. In the 20th century this dancing field expanded immensely adding constant changes, consequently adopting the present modern version. A new period is born, with dancing performances and related social shows. Professional dancers have undertaken to encode a method of teaching dancing since 1910. In Greece, awards from the organization, International Dance Teachers Association (I.D.T.A.), certify individual abilities of dancers per standard, according to international established pattern. Thanks to the dynamic that dances radiate, they soon organized competitive levels in which the contestants are divided into professional and amateurs. The medal awards are accessed to sport dancers. In International level, the Dancing Festival of Blackpool, where it takes place yearly in Blackpool England, is considered the most prestigious dancing event. The International Championship are regulated by the World Dance Council (WDC) and the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF), which was once considered to be represented as an organization in the Olympic Games. In our school, you have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with dancing.Through a systematic procedure to learn each individual dance, you will improve your technique to be able to acquire the relevant diploma.
